Jarro-Dophilus® Women combines the most common species of vaginal lactobacilli that reduce vaginal pH, creating a slightly acidic and healthier microbial environment.

Vaginal probiotics are an increasingly popular supplement for women, offering a variety of potential health benefits. By administering beneficial bacteria, probiotics help restore balance to the delicate microbial environment of the vagina and can help protect against a range of problems, from candidiasis to urinary tract infections.

Jarro-Dophilus, Vaginal Probiotic are designed to work in the vagina by replicating microorganisms that help maintain a healthy microbial balance. These microorganisms are found at normal levels in the vagina, but can become imbalanced as we age, increasing the likelihood of infections and pH imbalances. There are a number of different types of bacteria that can be used in probiotic supplements, although they all act in a similar way to maintain a healthy vaginal environment through the same mechanism. Probiotics interact with each other to produce essential nutrients and defend against harmful organisms.

Normally in the vaginal environment there is a balance of good micro-organisms, such as Lactobacilli, which do not allow other 'bad' bacteria to multiply to a level where they cause symptoms. There are circumstances that can upset this balance: taking antibiotics or other drugs, weakening of the immune system, poor or excessive intimate hygiene, hormonal changes induced by hormonal contraceptives, and during pregnancy or menopause.

In addition to unpleasant symptoms - itching, pain, burning or unpleasant vaginal discharge - this imbalance can have other consequences such as bacterial or fungal vaginal infections, recurrent urinary tract infections or the risk of premature birth in pregnant women.

Thus, it is necessary to restore the balance by taking Jarro-Dophilus, Vaginal Probiotic. But even this must be done respecting certain criteria. In the following we answer the most frequently asked questions about taking vaginal lactobacillus probiotics.

  • 1. At what age is it beneficial to take vaginal lactobacillus?
As a woman's vaginal flora is formed after puberty, this is the time when administration takes effect.

Thereafter, the administration of Lactobacillus is useful whatever the stage of life: adolescence, adult women, maternity, menopause and postmenopause.

  • 2. Does the type of lactobacillus administered matter?
Lactobacilli (Lb), lactic acid producing bacteria, comprise over 260 different species. They all produce lactic acid but the species and subspecies may have different actions as well as preferred site of action (digestive, vaginal).

For example, the most common Lactobacillus species found in the vaginal flora of healthy pregnant women were Lb.Crispatus, Gasseri, Rhamnosus and Jensenii, exactly what the Jarro-Dophilus Vaginal Probiotic product comprises.

Therefore, in urogenital disorders, only those Lactobacilli that normally exist in the female vaginal flora should be administered, which are able to colonize the area, multiply and have an inhibitory effect on bad bacteria.

  • 3. How much and how often should a woman take Lactobacillus?
Theoretically it would be useful to take a daily dose.

How much is an important point to clarify as more important than the quantity is the type of lactobacilli. It must be acting on the health problem and have tropism on the target area.

Also the statement "the more good bacteria you administer the better" is not correct: Some effects are obtained with a small number of bacteria, others with a larger number. The amount needed to be administered depends on the type of lactobacillus and the area to which it is directed.

Therefore, those Lactobacilli that have been shown to be effective in studies should be administered at the recommended dose for vaginal imbalance.

  • 4. Which is better to administer: a combination of several types of Lactobacillus or a single species?
Theoretically combinations are useful because of the sum of specific effects. However, the potential competitive effect should not be neglected.

Therefore, the strains chosen in combination must be non-competitive and the action on the balance of vaginal flora must be validated in studies on the combination and not on separate strains.

  • 5. Does oral administration of Lactobacillus influence the vaginal flora?
Studies have shown that oral administration of certain LAB leads to vaginal colonisation. The condition for Lb to pass from the digestive tract to the vagina depends on their type, i.e. their ability to resist the acidic environment and bile salts, their mobility.

Jarro-Dophilus, Vaginal Probiotic is a patented product containing a combination of specifically selected lactobacilli administered orally to restore and maintain the balance of vaginal and intestinal flora.

Benefits of Jarro-Dophilus, Vaginal Probiotic

Probiotics can help balance the symptoms of many conditions, supporting balance in the body. Thus, probiotics have beneficial effects at the:

  • Digestive - regulate intestinal transit, reduce intestinal discomfort, especially that caused by antibiotic administration, balance symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Probiotics for intestinal flora are also useful in infection with helicobacter pylori, the bacterium that causes ulcers.
  • Immune - by balancing the intestinal flora, they are useful in infections
  • Vaginal - support vaginal flora balance, useful for vaginal mycosis
  • Urinary - useful for urinary infections
  • Neuropsychiatric - some studies have shown their important role in managing conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder.
