The biologically active form of S-adenosylmethionine, which helps maintain liver, brain functions and joint health.
S-Adenosylmethionine, first discovered in 1952, is a molecule naturally synthesized in the body, from the amino acid
methionine and
adenosine triphosphate, in the presence of
magnesium. External intake is important because it is found in small quantities in food.
SAM-e is found in
all living cells, where it acts as a
methyl group donor, involved in over
100 different reactions. It operates in the body through 3 mechanisms:
transmethylation, transsulfuration and aminopropylation. The body's need to synthesize
SAM-e increases under the action of external factors (e.g., stress), physiological factors (aging) or disruptive factors.
SAM-e supports the production of healthy connective tissue through
transsulfuration. In this process, critical components of connective tissue, known as
glycosaminoglycans (GAG), including
glucosamine and chondroitin, are sulfated by
SAM-E metabolites to produce sulfated GAGs, such as
glucosamine sulfate and
chondroitin sulfate.
SAMe shows promise in the
treatment of knee or hip osteoarthritis. It is said to relieve pain and has
anti-inflammatory properties, and some research suggests it may
promote cartilage repair. SAM-e methylation reactions are involved in the synthesis of
neurotransmitters such as
L-DOPA, dopamine and related hormones,
serotonin,
epinephrine and
phosphatidylcholine (a component of lecithin).
SAMe 200 S-Adenosylmethionine Benefits
- maintaining normal hepatobiliary function:
- supports detoxification capacity and limits the action of free radicals on DNA, proteins and lipids (through trans-sulfuration, precursors of glutathione and glutathione-dependent enzymes are produced: glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-S-peroxidase)
- maintains normal bile secretion and flow
- maintains the integrity of the liver cell; provides support in the hepatic synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a compound with lipotropic action
- supports glycolysis and hepatic metabolism of glucose
- maintaining normal brain functions:
- supports attention, memory, psychological balance, neuronal integrity and limits manifestations associated with fatigue
- provides support in the synthesis of neurotransmitters and intercellular communication; L-dopa, dopamine, adrenaline, noradrenaline, serotonin, acetylcholine and supports the sensitivity of receptors for these
- maintains the integrity of neuronal cell membranes and myelin sheath; promotes the synthesis of phospholipids
- supporting the normal structure and mobility of joints:
- maintains the integrity of cartilage, tendons and ligaments (proteoglycans are formed through trans-sulfuration)
- promotes joint comfort
- balancing the normal cell division process of DNA through balancing the methylation process
- supports the body's energy needs, physical performance, recovery after intense physical exercise and muscle mass (through the formation of creatine, it supports the transformation of ADP into ATP)
- maintaining normal cardiovascular function (provides support in reducing the action of homocysteine on blood vessels)
Recommended use
Take 1 tablet 1 or 2 times a day, on an empty stomach or as directed by a qualified specialist.

Warnings
A person using prescribed medications, such as antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and MAO inhibitors, should consult a doctor before use. People with Parkinson's disease, bipolar disorder, or manic depression should not use SAM-e. Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing. Do not exceed the recommended dose. It can cause gastrointestinal disturbances in some people. If you feel discomfort, stop using. Jarrow Formulas Sam-e 200 is packed in foil to maximize stability and safety. Do not use if the outer seal of the blister is broken. Keep in a cool and
