Methylcobalamin, the metabolically active form of Vitamin B12 and Methyl Folate, provide support for the normal functioning of the nervous system.
Jarrow Formulas® Methyl B-12, Methyl folate Plus Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) tablet combines the active forms of these vitamins to support DNA synthesis and the production of neurotransmitters and amino acid metabolism. Homocysteine is transformed into methionine by methyl folate and B12 and into cysteine by P5P-dependent enzymes.
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system. It is essential for DNA synthesis during the process of cell division. Since Vitamin B12 is mainly found in animal products, individuals adopting a vegetarian diet need an additional intake of B12.
Vitamin B12 is a double effect immunomodulator: directly by stimulating immune cells and due to red blood cell formation which provides tissues and organs with the necessary oxygen supply, and indirectly, since it's known as the “energy vitamin,” it gives the body the vitality it needs to fight against harmful factors, during periods of illness.
Methyl Folate presents a major advantage in comparison with folic acid consumption as the body can use it immediately, without needing to transform it into an active form, this being the natural form in which it's already found. Folate presence in the body offers protection against intestinal parasites, gives the skin a healthy appearance, increases lactation, has analgesic effects, prevents birth deficiencies, and acts preventively against anemia. Methyl Folate is one of the B complex vitamins and is responsible for various functions, such as normal psychological functions, reducing high levels of homocysteine, and the synthesis of DNA and amino acids.
The P-5-P form of Vitamin B6 is used directly in the functions of B6-dependent enzymes in the body. In fact, Vitamin B6 and P-5-P are required for more than 100 enzymatic reactions, most of them related to the metabolism of proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. It is also involved in cognitive development, the health of the immune system, and in homocysteine conversion.
