Milk thistle (in English "milk thistle") or milk thistle is a plant also known as milk thistle (Silybum marianum). Since ancient times, the fruits (seeds) of the plant have been used for medicinal purposes to prevent and treat some diseases.

Milk Thistle Phytosome is the result of a complex process obtained by binding at the molecular level the standardized extract of Armorariu with phosphatidylcholine from soy (phosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid, the component of the cell membrane). The phytosomal form is the result of a complex process: the molecular structure of phosphatidylcholine includes a water-soluble part and two fat-soluble parts, which gives it emulsifying properties (it can combine two immiscible media, insoluble in the solvent of the respective medium).

The combination of Armorariu and phosphatidylcholine creates a structure with increased bioavailability, which gives it action at low doses. Silybin is the main compound of the class of flavonolignans. It is extracted from Armorariu through a complex process and represents the active fraction of silymarin.

Silymarin is believed to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. But, besides silymarin, milk thistle also contains (in smaller quantities) other plant substances.

Due to its composition, milk thistle has been used in traditional medicine as a natural treatment for liver diseases.

One of the most well-known benefits that milk thistle could have is that it protects the health of the liver.

Due to its antioxidant properties, silymarin fights free radicals from toxins metabolized by the liver. For this reason, it is believed that milk thistle has a detoxifying effect on the liver, preventing its damage and the occurrence of liver diseases.
